There are as many reasons to succeed as there are reasons to fail. So in order to attain our goals, let’s take a look at 4 things that we should NOT do so that we can avoid failure as best as we can. And I will give you the BIGGEST reason for failure at the end of this post. In the meantime, here are the 4 very real reasons for failure:
-
DOING IT ALONE
Whatever your goals, whether it is to build a business or to lose weight, it is wise to do it with other people. I don’t mean you need to have the support of everyone around you. What I’m saying is that you need to know the right people that can guide you, support you and advise you. Even better if you have someone to be on a similar journey, doing things you both value side by side. If you have a goal to lose weight, join an aerobic class instead of going to the gym all by yourself. You tend to keep doing what you’re doing if you’re in a group and have to be accountable. If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, you need to have a coach, you need to have partners or a group of people who you can link up with to widen your network and help you get things done or simply just to help you market your product or services. If you are alone, behind your computer, the road is going to be long and tough and success is not even guaranteed.

LACK OF CLARITY
I know how important clarity is in everything we set out to do. I experienced firsthand what it was like to not have clarity. When I first started this blog, I was unsure what my direction was and who my target readers were. And because of that, I was not able to push my blog to flourish. I was weighing between writing a blog to target young people who want to achieve and writing a blog to inspire anybody, to have the courage and the confidence to work for a life they want and become the person they have always wanted to be. I can tell you that during the months that I was unsure, my blog posts were not consistent in the message they set out to deliver and my followers were at best around 100 people. On the other hand, when I was finally clear that I wanted to inspire people, just anybody, to believe in themselves and go for that dream life, I was able to write blog posts that had consistent message and my followers flourished to 2000 people within 2 months. My friends, it is very important to KNOW EXACTLY WHY you want to do something. It is imperative that you know HOW EXACTLY you want to make an IMPACT. I hope by the end of this paragraph, you will start to spend a few minutes or even a few days to find clarity in what you’re doing and who you want to be. Because without clarity, you will not get to the destination. It’s like driving without knowing exactly where you want to go. How will you get “there” if you don’t even know “where” it is?

LACK OF CONSISTENCY & MOMENTUM
Just as riding a bicycle, you need to keep pedaling in order for the bicycle to move and bring you forward, in whatever journey you are on, you need to keep doing the things that will move your project forward. If you stop, you will lose balance and it takes more energy to get started again. Same goes with going for your dream, if you stop, it will take more effort to resume where you left off. Consistency is the only way for you to see the fruits of your hard work. Consistency gives you momentum. When you go to the gym every week, it is easier to just keep going every week. But if you go to the gym once in 3 weeks, you are more likely to skip each week of gym session because you don’t have a momentum. So if you want to accomplish what you have set out to accomplish, consistency is key.

QUITTING TOO SOON
Most good things take time. If you quit too soon, you are least likely to achieve it. Everything has their own time frame for success. Fruits have a certain number of weeks to grow from a bud to fully ripe fruit. Winter will last a few months before the weather gets warm and cosy again. We cannot rush to get what we want. And if it feels very long, we just have to keep trying and wait for the results to show. If you quit before winter is over, you will never get to see spring.
=========================================================
Whew! Those were some serious points weren’t they? But really, you HAVE TO widen your network & seek help, be CLEAR with your WHY & your GOALS, be consistent and… keep going at it even when it seems like you’re not producing results.
And now, are you ready for the BIGGEST REASON we fail to accomplish our goals?
……………………………..*drumroll* …………………………………
It’s because:
YOU FAIL TO START!
YES! It may sound simple, but this REALLY is the main reason why people fail to achieve their goals! They are afraid to start! They don’t start!

There are many reasons we fail but I agree that never starting is the biggest culprit. It is better to try, fail, and have learned some things than to never have tried.

I quite agree with Lili on what she called the biggest reason for failure. According to Les Brown, “You don’t have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great.” Thanks for sharing this!

So very true. I like to live by the motto “just do it”. I often tell my kids that, just start.
